Man-Eaters Safari Camp comprises of 30 fully furnished en-suite spacious luxurious tents nestled on the banks of the Tsavo River. This safari camp is on the site where around 140 railway workers were killed by man-eating black-maned lions in the late 1800's when the British were building the first railway across Kenya to Uganda The lions were finally killed by Colonel Patterson, the chief engineer of the bridge. The book “The Lions of Tsavo” tells this story, and it was then made into a movie called “The Ghost & the Darkness” several years ago, starring Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer.
It is at the far west of the park, but this does not cause a problem as lunch can be taken at its sister camp Voi Wildlife Lodge, and it is very near the entrance to Tsavo West for people doing both parks.
