Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge is located within the Tsavo West National Park, a short drive from the main Mtito Andei Gate. It has 3 water holes with great floodlit viewing after dark, on a terraced veranda just below the bar/dining room which runs the length of the main building. These water holes are alive with activity, particularly so in the dry seasons when there is little water elsewhere, and this lodge offers excellent viewing facilities. Also on a clear day you can see Mount Kilimanjaro from here. For more information see their website at www.serenahotels.com/serenakilaguni/default-en.html
Below are the photos I took on our visit in December 2009. There had been a lot of rain in the “small rains” and so there were not as many animals visiting the water hole as on our previous visit (March 2006), when we had sat up mesmerised until about 2 am, but on this occasion we were lucky enough to see a leopard who had recently discovered the Impala herd that had started sleeping here feeling that the floodlights kept them safe!
